The Russians also saw a Prussian victory as a way to block out or counterweight the influence of the British. Thirdly, the Russians saw that the Prussians were about to win the war, and thus wanted to take some territory to maintain the balance of power. Secondly, the state wanted a strong German ally and state to stand up to the Austrians and were still bitter and resentful about their loss in the Crimean war, and wanted to expand their own power in the Balkans.
